About PA Small Business Week

Pennsylvania Small Business Week is part of a national event celebrating the contributions of small businesses to our communities and economy while sharing the resources supporting current and future entrepreneurs, startups, and small businesses.

During the week, we shared information on events, resources, and small business success stories across our state. We encourage you to explore our site and visit often to learn how you can engage in our dynamic entrepreneurial and small business community.

We value our small businesses, and are committed to fostering a business environment where your services and products reach both niche markets and a wider audience to help you expand your reach here, and see how we can help you grow and thrive.

Small Business Impact in Pennsylvania

Entrepreneurs, startups, and small businesses bring new ideas, tools, technology, and jobs to Pennsylvania, creating opportunities throughout our state. We are home to nearly one million small businesses employing 2.4 million workers.

In 2012 alone, Pennsylvania small businesses created more than 72,000 new jobs. Of the 22,000+ small businesses established in 2013, over 77 percent were still open and doing business one year in 2014 – a major milestone for new companies.

We are proud of the small businesses which fill a critical role in our economy by:

  • contributing to our economic diversity
  • commercializing innovative new technologies
  • employing nearly half of our private sector workforce, and
  • accounting for over 98 percent of all employers in the state
